Are Probiotics Worth the Money?

Probiotic supplements are kind of like the new multi-vitamin. We’re not sure how beneficial they are, but we take them anyway because it’s “healthy” and little risk. However, research published last month doesn’t necessarily support this thinking. In fact, there may be no point in taking probiotics unless they’re specific to your gut’s needs (something that’s pretty hard and uncomfortable to assess!). Research also suggests that taking them after a round of antibiotics may actually do more harm than good.

So are probiotics helpful, harmful, or useless?
