Oven Flank Steak
I almost didn’t share this seasoned flank steak because it doesn’t meet my culinary criteria for an actual recipe. Sometimes I feel like a recipe requires multiple ingredients or steps – or at least more thinking outside-the-box than this. But here’s the thing: It’s simple AND flavorful, AND it’s a go-to I use to pull a quick dinner because it takes only 10 minutes to cook.
To actually make this a meal, I sliced the prepared steak into thin strips. Then, I toss together a Fresh Express Cherry Almond Bleu bagged spinach salad. I served the kids steak with a few Alexia sweet potato fries and salad, and I served my steak over a larger portion of the salad.
If you’ve got any leftovers, slice all steak before storing, so you can use it for lunch or dinner on salads or quesadillas or to pair with veggies for another meal that week.
Maybe not a true “recipe,” but it’s definitely a delicious dinner when you don’t feel like cooking! Let me know what you think by sharing your final product on social media! Quick Oven Flank Steak
Makes 4-6 servings
Flank steak is a thin, lean cut of beef that’s easy to season and perfect for slicing for fajitas, sandwiches, quesadillas, or just dinner. My favorite seasoning blend to use is Wildtree Rancher Steak Rub but McCormick Grill Mates Montreal Seasoning is a good one too - and has a lower-sodium option! And if you’re questioning putting steak in the oven, trust me on this!
INGREDIENTS
1 to 1½ pound flank steak
1 - 2 tablespoons steak seasoning (see above for my favs!)
METHOD
Place steak on a cutting board. Score steak, cutting in (but not through) steak going diagonally against grain. Sprinkle with seasoning and rub in. Turn steak over, and repeat process on other side. Place on a broiler pan.
Preheat broiler. Broil or grill steak 5 to 6 minutes*. Turn steak, and cook an additional 5 to 6 minutes or until desired degree of doneness. Let steak stand 5 minutes before slicing. Cut into thin strips.
*NOTE: Cook time is based on a 1-inch thick flank steak. If using a larger steak, increase broil time on both sides by 1 to 2 minutes, or until desired degree of doneness.
