Pear and Gorgonzola Pizza
I love tailgating on the Quad here in Tuscaloosa, but I have to admit that I am just little excited about a low-key weekend with Alabama playing away. Since I won’t be hauling food to a tailgate, I’m branching out from the typical mayo-based dips and nugget trays to bake one of my new pizzas I’ve been working on – Pear and Gorgonzola Pizza. This is a flavor combination that I absolutely love! I first ordered this pizza years ago while out with friends, and I have been meaning to recreate it ever since. However, there’s been one thing holding me back : yeast dough.
Now y’all know “baking” isn’t my talent! …And I’m definitely not using my unscheduled Saturday trying to get yeast to rise! So, naturally, I opted for a delicious pre-made dough from the grocery. This makes prep super simple. Once the crust is rolled out, assemble your ingredients and then toss it on the grill or in the oven (whichever is easiest!). I love that you can slice it traditionally or you cut it into small pieces to eat as a snack for a get together. If eating it for a meal, I love to serve a simple green salad with it.

Pear and Gorgonzola Pizza
This is a flavor combination your palate will love!
INGREDIENTS
1 pre-made whole wheat pizza dough
⅛ cup whole wheat flour
1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
½ teaspoon flaky salt
½ teaspoon garlic powder
1 ripe pear, thinly sliced
½ cup gorgonzola, crumbled
⅛ cup walnuts, chopped
Freshly ground black pepper
METHOD
Preheat oven to 450 degrees. On a lightly flour surface, roll out the pizza dough, adding additional flour as needed to prevent sticking.
Place dough on a lightly oiled pan (I use: Non-Stick Pizza Pan). Spread olive oil evenly across the dough. Sprinkle flaky salt and garlic powder on the dough, making sure to season the crust.
Distribute about half of the gorgonzola cheese on the dough. Lay sliced pears on the pizza dough and sprinkle with remaining gorgonzola cheese and walnuts.
Cook the pizza for about 10-12 minutes, or until crust is golden. Season with a few cracks of black pepper and serve.
